Page :03 The Prophet's Hajj and 'Umrah
The Prophet's last Hajj (pilgrimage) was called the Farewell pilgrimage or the pilgrimage of Islam. Hajj was commanded as an obligation to all Muslims in the year 6 A.H. as stated by some scholars', or in the year 9 A.H. by others.
He performed 'Umrah four times. The 'Umrah of Al- Hudaibiyah, which he was initially prevented from performing, followed by the 'Umrah of Al-Qada' to fulfil it, then the 'Umrah of Al-Ji'ranah, then the 'Umrah that preceded his Farewell Hajj.
The Prophet
performed Hajj once before Al-Hijrah (The Emigration to Al-Madinah), and it was said that he did Hajj many times, which is the soundest opinion, as he used to set out during the Hajj event every year calling people to the Deen (religion) of Allah.
The Majority of Scholars said that the injunction of Hajj was in the 6th year A.H., giving as proof the time of the verse (And complete the Hajj or 'Umrah in the service of Allah) in the year of Hudaibiyah peace treaty (6 A.H.). However, Ibn Al-Qayyim said in his "Zad Al-Ma'ad" (101/2) that the injunction of Hajj was delayed until the year 9 or 10 and added that it was mentioned by many of our worthy ancestors.

Missions
Muslim transmitted a Hadith by Abdullah Ibn Buraidah Ibn Al-Husaib Al-Aslami, on the authority of his father, saying: "the Prophet made nineteen Ghazwah (Invasions), and fought in eight of them." On the authority of Zaid Ibn Arqam, he said: "the Prophet made nineteen Ghazwah, and I attended alongside him seventeen of them." As for Muhammad Ibn Ishaq, he said that the Prophet was involved in twenty-seven Ghazwah, and his missions totalled thirty-eight.
Ibn Hisham mentioned more
missions than Ibn Ishaq, and Allah Knows Best.
