So, more than ever, it is incumbent upon us to talk to our youth, and even we adults should reflect on the greatness of our great Muslim heroes from our Islamic past, who built the most glorious and powerful civilization of all, who took a crass society of measly people and gave them Islam that dramatically improved their lives. Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah
His Name and Lineage
His name was 'Aamir bin Abdullah bin Al-Jarrah bin Hi- lal bin Uhaib bin Dabbah bin Al-Hârith bin Fihr bin Mâlik .His lineage meets with the Prophet with their ancestor Fihr. So, it is said Al-Quraishi Al-Fihri.
His real name was the same in the pre-Islamic era and af- ter Islam. His nickname was Abu 'Ubaidah.
Allâh's Messenger gave him the title 'The Trustworthy of the Ummah.' He was called Abu 'Ubaidah bin Al-Jarrah. Neither his first name nor his father's name was mentioned. He was known only by his nickname Abu 'Ubaidah and his grandfather's name Al-Jarrah. His mother's name was Umm Ghanam bint Jabir bin 'Adi.(1)
His Features
In our upright religion we are not supposed to evaluate one another, nor are we evaluated by Allâh u, by our appearance or any other physical or material possession. Allâh
says:
"O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allâh is that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [he is one of the Muttaqûn (the pious)]. Verily, Allâh is All-Knowing, All-Aware." (49:13) Allâh's Messenger said:
"Indeed, Allâh does not look at your figures or wealth. He looks at your hearts and deeds." (Al-Bukhari)
