The Greatness of SEEKING FORGIVENESS and Repenting to Allâh Shaikh Abu Abdullâh Mustafa bin al-Adawi
Page : 02
Introduction A glimpse at some of the benefits that ensue from acts of obedience. Every intelligent person who looks to the Qur'ân and the Sunnah of Allâh's Messenger and studies the affairs of the various nations, peoples, groups, and individuals, will certainly come to realize that the greatest reason and cause that brings about all types of blessings and favours, that allows them to descend in abundance, not just to preserve them but to increase them, is obedience to Allâh, the Mighty and Magnificent, through having faith in Him, actualizing His tawhid, doing good deeds, seeking His forgiveness and refraining from harming other people. Allâh the Exalted and may He be glorified says; وَلَوْ أَنَّ أَهْلَ الْقُرَى ءَامَنُوا وَاتَّقَوْا لَفَتَحْنَا عَلَيْهِم بَرَكَتٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَلَكِن كَذَّبُوا فَأَخَذْ نَهُم بِمَا كَانُوا يَكْسِبُونَ الله <<And if only the people of the cities had be- lieved and had the feared Allâh, We would have opened [i.e., bestowed] upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth, but they denied [the Messenger]. So We seized them [with punish- ment] for what they were earning.» [Surah al-A'raf (7):96]

The Greatness of Seeking Forgiveness and Repenting to Allah By Shaikh Abu Abdullah Mustafa bin al-'Adawi This short treatise was originally a lecture delivered by the author (to a group of Muslims) in Mansura, Egypt. He was encouraged by a number of Islâmic publishers to present the topic in a readable form so that its benefit would reach a wider audience. Therefore the author revised the lecture, verified all the hadith (quoted therein) and then re-wrote and re-arranged it and all praise and thanks belong to Allâh (for enabling him to do this). The author set out this treatise, with Allâh's success, gathering material discussing the Fiqh (understanding), etiquette, forms of supplication, virtues, benefits, preferred times and places for seeking forgiveness. Also the author has mentioned the obstacles which prevent forgiveness (from being accepted). He has began this treatise by mentioning some of the fruits of obedience to Allâh and the evil effects of sins, this in order to encourage people to seek forgiveness. The author, in this treatise, has followed his general style; which is the adherence to presenting authentic knowledge stemming from, the book of Allâh and the established Sunnah of the Messenger of Allâh.
