From Author:
Imam ibn al-Jawzi mentions that he read Al-Asbahani's inspiring book 'Al-Hilyat al-Awliya' and decided to pen an abridgement of it. He amended aspects he considered to be unnecessary, for example, removing the chains of transmission to reduce length of narrations as well as omitting reports he considered to be specious; and in this manner his own distinguished 'Sifat al-Safwah' came to be. It is a book comprising stories and accomplishments of some of the greatest personalities of Islamic history.
This third volume begins with exceptional people of Kufa, Basra and its surrounding areas. The volume contains over two hundred and eighty towering figures of Islam for their knowledge, piety, courage, sacrifice and ascetism.
It is known that one may assume good etiquette by accompanying people of righteousness, and we anticipate that every reader will be inspired by the soul-stirring content of this work. Reading through its pages will not only astound, but immerse you into a world of extraordinary group of characters exemplifying richness and quality of human experience. This volume is designed to augment one's spiritual condition towards achieving a real triumph in this life, as well as the one that will follow.
Ibn al-Jawzi's prolific knowledge of history and biographical depth becomes apparent as he effectively emphasises relationships between individuals and their Creator that seek to develop a closeness truly reflecting the meaning of living a Muslim life, and striving to achieve a greater sense of purpose and fulfilment. You will find this volume to be intellective and utterly absorbing.
