Imam Ibn al-Jawzi recounts how he read Al-Asbahani's inspiring book Al-Hilyat al-Awliya and decided to create an abridged version of it. He revised certain aspects that he deemed unnecessary, such as removing the chains of narration to shorten the length of the stories and omitting reports he considered doubtful. In this way, his own distinguished work, Sifat al-Safwah, was born. This book features the stories and accomplishments of some of the most revered figures in Islamic history.

The second volume opens with a focus on the noble wives of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and some of the prominent female Companions.
