Stand straight facing the Qiblah (towards the direction of Ka'bah in Makkah). Keep your feet straight and toes directed towards the Qiblah. Raise your hands to your shoulders, or to your ears; keep the fingers stretched and make the palms face the Qiblah.
Make intention of the Salah you want to perform, e.g., Zuhr, 'Asr, etc., and whether Fard or Nafl.
Intention is not expressed by words.
Place your right hand over
the left hand, and place them either on your chest, below it, or above the navel.
الله اَكْبَرُ
Say: Allahu Akbar
Allah is the Greatest
(this is called Takbir Tahrimah).
Your are now
in the state of Salah.

اللَّهُمَّ بَاعِدْ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا بَاعَدْتَ بَيْنَ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ اللَّهُمَّ نَقْنِي مِنْ خَطَايَايَ كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الْأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، اللهُمَ اغْسِلْ خَطَايَايَ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِRead any of the following du'a quietly:
سُبْحَانَكَ اللهُمَ وَ بِحَمْدِكَ وَتَبَارَكَ اسْمُكَ وَتَعَالَى جَدُّكَ وَلَا إِلَهَ غَيْرُكَ
Subhaanakal-laahumma wa bihamdika wa tabaarakas-muka wa ta 'aalaa jadduka wa laa ilaaha ghayruka.
Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise is due to You. Blessed is Your Name, and exalted is Your Majesty and there is no God but You.
Allaahumma baa'id baynee wa bayna khataayaaya kamaa baa 'adta baynal-mashriqi wal-maghribi. Allaahumma naqqinee min khataayaaya kamaa yunaqqath-thawbul- abyadu minad-danase. Allaahummagh-sil khataayaaya bil-maa'i wath-thalji wal-barad.
O Allah, make a distance between me and my sins as You have made the distance between east and west.
O Allah, purify me from my sins as the white garment is purified from the dirt. O Allah, wash away my sins with water, snow and hailstones.
