Throughout history, Allah has sent messengers to every nation showing them the Straight Path, in order for people to achieve good in this world and the next. The Qur'an tells us that this is a great mercy for all those who believe:
Allah showed great kindness to the believers when He sent a messenger to them from among themselves to recite His signs to them and purify them and teach them the Book and Wisdom, even though before that they were clearly misguided. (Surah Al 'Imran: 164)
And Allah said to His Messenger, Muhammad*:
We have only sent you as a mercy to all the worlds. (Surat al- Anbiya': 107)
These messengers were guiding lights for the communities to which they were sent; they showed their people the Right Path and imparted to them the commands of Allah. They conveyed the importance of believing in Allah and following His commands in order to achieve success in the Hereafter. However, throughout history, few people have heeded or appreciated what a great mercy these messengers were for them as highlighted in the Qur'an:
... But most people have no faith. (Surat ar-Ra'd: 1)
But most people, for all your eagerness, are not believers. (Surah Yusuf: 103)
The sole purpose of these messengers was to spread the Word of Allah. They wanted no material recompense for their work, desiring
Page no:4 Allah has sent prophets to every nation throughout history so that they may show their people the Straight Path. Some of these prophets have been granted miracles by the permission of Allah in order to support their Divine message. Prophets Ibrahim, Musa and Isa were just some of the messengers to whom Allah granted miracles and these are outlined in the Qur'an.
Similarly, the Prophet Muhammad was also granted miracles throughout his life for people to see and learn from, by Allah's permission. Many of these are well-known such as the Night Journey and Ascent through the Heavens. Others are less well-known such as the flowing of water from the fingers of the Prophet
