كشف الشُّبُهَاتِ
Commentary
This book that is in the reader's hands is a comprehensive commentary of a book entitled Kashf Shubuhaat, which literally translates as: 'The Clearing of Doubts'. In it, the author explains and refutes the arguments that were used by certain groups of Muslims of his time to justify their acts of shirk. The author brings those arguments and refutes them to remove those doubts from one's mind, so that he worships Allah Alone, which is the purpose of why he was created; as Allah says:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve Me. (Quran 51:56)

فإِذَا عَرَفْتَ أَنَّ جُهَالَ الكُفَّارِ يَعْرِفُوْنَ ذَلِكَ، فَالعَجَبُ مِمَّنْ يَدَّعِي الإِسلَامَ وَهُو لَا يَعْرِفُ مِنْ تَفْسِيرِ هَذِهِ الكَلِمَةِ مَا عَرَفَهُ جُهَّالُ الكَفَّارِ، بَلْ يَظُنُّ أَنَّ ذَلِكَ هُو التَّلَفُظُ بِحُرُوفِهَا مِنْ غَيْرِ اعْتِقَادِ القَلْبِ لشيء من المَعَانِي، وَالحَاذِقُ مِنْهُمْ يَظُنَّ أَنَّ مَعْنَاهَا: لا يَخْلُقُ وَلَا يَرْزُقُ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، وَلَا يُدَبِّرُ الْأَمْرَ إِلَّا اللهُ ، فَلَا خَيْرَ فِي رَجُلٍ جُهَّالُ الكُفَّارِ أَعْلَمُ مِنْهُ بِمَعَانِي (لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ).
Considering that the ignorant ones from amongst the disbelievers knew this, how astonishing is the one who claims Islam but does not know the correct meaning of this kalimah - which even ignorant disbelievers know! Instead, one thinks that they merely utter its letters without the heart having true belief in any of its meanings.
Even the intelligent ones amongst them believe its meaning to be: none creates, and none gives sustenance, and none controls the affairs except Allah. So, there can be no goodness in a person when even the ignorant disbelievers are more knowledgeable than him of the meaning of "La llaha Illa Allah".

Here the author explains that many Muslims believe that this kalimah "La Ilaha Illa Allah" is only to be uttered and not followed in what it implies. On the other hand, some say that merely believing that there is no creator except Allah, there is no Sustainer except Allah and there is no controller
