Description of islamic Book

Forty Hadiths on Poisonous Social Habits

Yahya Ondigo has compiled a unique collection of Forty Hadiths on Poisonous Social Habits, following in the footsteps of Imam an-Nawawi and other esteemed scholars. By briefly commenting on each hadith (record of guidance) from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the book provides a well-researched and thoroughly documented understanding of how the divinely-inspired words and actions of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) are applicable to contemporary societies. Through insightful discussions of social ills such as lying, greed, corruption, smoking, and gambling, the author offers advice for overcoming these habits and their detrimental effects. This eloquently-worded piece embodies the author's profound faith in Islam and his care for humanity. It is a powerful reminder to reflect on the causes and consequences of these poisonous habits in the hopes of instigating change within ourselves. As the saying goes, Allah will not alter the condition of a people unless they

Introduction
The Qur'an and the Sunnah are the two primary sources of guidance for every Muslim. The Sunnah consists of Prophet Mu- hammad's own statements and deeds, along with the acts of which he tacitly approved, as guided by Allah. Perhaps the most im- portant of these three components are his statements, as captured in the authentic Hadith (the collected statements and actions of Prophet Muhammad [] that with the Qur'an form the basis of Islamic law).
Hadith literature (and the various branches of Hadith science) is the richest source of early Islamic history. It facilitates an un- derstanding of the legal, cultural, and religious ideas of the early centuries. The history of the origin, development, and criticism of Hadith literature is an important and fascinating subject. Its sig- nificance can be seen from the fact that it has served as an aston- ishingly voluminous source of data for the history of pre-Islamic Arabia and early Islam along with the development of Arabic lit- erature, Islamic thought in general and Islamic law in particu- lar. Hadith literature also played a decisive role in establishing a common cultural framework for the Islamic world; it continues to wield influence on the minds and in the lives of Muslims every- where, an influence that is very likely to continue for the foresee- able future.
Wherever possible, Arabic terms have been translated into English. In cases where we have chosen to retain the Arabic, the transliterated word or phrase is shown in italics the first time it appears in the text; the term is also defined in the Glossary found at the end of this book.

On Poisonous Social Habits
In this unique collection of Forty Hadiths on Poisonous Social Habits, Yahya Ondigo has emulated the tradition of Imam an-Nawawi and other great scholars. He has compiled certain traditions of the Mes- senger of Allah () and briefly commented on each.
This well-researched and thoroughly- documented book offers both Muslim and
non-Muslim readers a clear understanding of how the divinely-inspired words and actions of Prophet Muhammad() apply to our contemporary societies. Such social ills as lying, greed, corruption, smoking, gambling, and others have been discussed along with their implications.
After elaborating each issue, the author has offered wise and insightful advice to get rid of that particular social habit. In this beautifully-worded piece, his deep faith in Islam shines through along with his love and concern for humanity.
About the author
Born into a strict Christian household in Kenya, Yahya Ondigo was always a man of faith. When his questions about the Chris- tian faith were left inadequately answered, Ondigo's search for the truth led him to Islam. Since then, he has pursued Islamic Studies, become a 'caller to Islam', and authored several books on Islamic topics, all published by IIPH, including: My Journey from Christianity to Islam, Muslim-Christian Interactions, and Forty Hadiths on Good Moral Values, which is the companion piece to this book.
