Description of islamic Book

This section explores marriage patterns within the Pakistani community, particularly focusing on the rise of consanguineous (cousin) marriages. It analyses social, economic, and migration-related factors influencing these practices, with a comparison between Sikh Jullunduri and Muslim Mirpuri communities in Britain. The discussion highlights how differences in economic background, education, and migration experiences have shaped levels of social mobility, settlement patterns, and community development, especially in urban areas like Bradford.

From Author:

He explains that Jullundur was comparatively prosperous and so many of its migrants possessed marketable craft and business skills, and many were college graduates. In comparison Azad Kashmir was economically backward and so many early migrants lacked many skills which forced them to work in unskilled jobs such as heavy engineering and textiles. He concludes that Mirpuris "have generally achieved much less in the way of occupational, residential, and educational mobility...with the result that in residential terms they are still overwhelmingly concentrated in under-resourced, inner-city areas."xxx While the Jullunduris have been able to prosper and move away from the deprivation of inner cities and watch their children achieve high academic qualifications, the Mirpuris have remained concentrated in deprived areas and prospered much less. I lived for three years in Bradford's Manningham area, which was heavily populated by Mirpuris. The community felt comfortable as it had created a home away from home; 'desh pardesh' in the language of Ballard. The vast 31
