CHAPTER SEVEN: MUSLIMS DEALING WITH NON-

it is the fresh clear water from which they all partake. Then Allah directed their love towards one another and caused it to bind them one to another, as the Prophet has said, "A person is with whomever he loves" 8 Abdullah Ibn Masu'd said: "A man came to Allah's Apostle and said, 'O Allah's Apostle! What do you say about a man who loves some people but cannot catch up with their good deeds?' Allah's Apostle said, 'Everyone will be with those whom he loves." "
Anas said that a man once came to the Prophet asking about the Hour. The Prophet asked him: "What have you put forward for it?" He said, "I have not said many prayers, I have not fasted much nor given alms, but I love Allah and His Messenger". So he told him, "You are with those whom you love".

It should perhaps be pointed out here that this love is not to be understood as a kind of mystic or sublime power which can wipe out sin and iniquity, as some have mistakenly believed. Rather, it is a heartfelt love, which is translated into deeds. Allah has said,
It shall not be in accordance with your desires (O Muslims), nor with those of the People of the Book. Whoever commits an evil deed shall

About this Book
This book was originally submitted in the form of a thesis for a Master's Degree to the Department of 'Aqeedah of the Umm al-Qorah University in Makka, Saudi Arabia.
The examining committee comprised the following: Muhammad Qutb, the supervisor, as chairman; Shaykh Abdar-Razak 'Afifi as a member; and Dr. Abdal-Aziz Obeid as a member.
The author was granted a Master's Degree, with excellence, on Saturday evening, the 4th of Shaban 1401.
It is impossible to provide a literal translation in English of the words al-wala' wa'l-bara', but the meaning of this Arabic termindicates, on the one hand, drawing near to what is pleasing to Allah and His Messenger and, on the other hand, withdrawing from what is displeasing to Allah and his Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
