Is the home not the place that offers cover and protection to women? Allaah tells us: 1961 وقرن في بُيُوتِكُنَّ وَلَا تَبَرَّجْنَ تَبَرُّحَ الْجَنْهِلِيَّةِ الْأُولَى "And stay in your houses, and do not display your- selves like that of the times of ignorance..." [Surah al-Ahzab (33): 33] If you think about those who are homeless, who live in shelters, or on the streets, or as refugees scattered in temporary camps, then you will realize the blessing of having a home. If you listen to a distressed homeless person saying, 'I have nowhere to settle, no fixed place to stay. Sometimes I sleep in so and so's house, sometimes in a cafe or park or on the sea-front, and I keep my clothes in my car', then you will realize the disruption that re- sults from not having the blessing of a home. When Allaah punished the Jews of Banu Nadir, He took away this blessing and expelled them from their homes, as He said: هُوَ الَّذِي أَخْرَجَ الَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا مِنْ أَهْلِ الْكِتَبِ مِن دِيرِهِمْ لِأَوَّلِ الحشر "He it is Who drove out the disbelievers among the people of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews of the tribe of Banu al-Nadir) from their homes at the first gathering." Then He said: يخرِبُونَ بُيُوتَهُم بِأَيْدِيهِمْ وَأَيْدِي الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فَاعْتَبِرُوا تِت أُولِي الْأَبْصَارِ ال "...they destroyed their own dwellings with their own hands and the hands of the believers. Advice on establishing an ISLAMIC HOME by Shaikh Muhammad Salih al-Munajjid An excellent book discussing the foundation of an Islamic household. The author addresses issues that are relevant to the majority of Muslim households, such as the importance of choosing a righteous spouse, making your home a place for the remembrance of Allah, spreading kindness in the home, teaching good manners, discussing some of the evils present in the home, learning the Islamic rulings with regard to how a Muslim home should be, creating an atmosphere of faith, resisting bad manners, choosing a good location and design, how to discipline children which may be more effective than physical punishment and the books that one should read and much more. Putting things right in the home is a great trust and huge responsibility which every Muslim man and woman should undertake as Allah commands; they should run the affairs of their homes in accordance with the rules set out by Allah. One of the ways of achieving this is by ridding the home of evil things. The author highlights some evil things that actually take place in some homes, which have become tools of destruction for the nests in which the future generations of the Muslim ummah are being raised. How many Muslim homes today are dead because there is no remembrance of Allah! What must they be like when all that is heard therein is the music, instruments and singing of Shaytan, backbiting, slander and gossip? What must they be like when they are filled with evil and sin? This book is an ideal learning and teaching guide, to read with family and friends, truly indispensable... لسنة Där as-Sunnah Publishers P.O. Box 9818, Birmingham, B11 4WA, United Kingdom.
