Chapter 8
إِنَّ الصَّلَاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَّوْقُوتًا
things but neglect the prayer because if you neglect your prayer then you have neglected your religion in its entirety; for indeed the Messenger of Allah (*) told us:
Verily, the prayer is enjoined on the believers at fixed times (An Nisa 4:103)
"The difference between us and them is the prayer, so whoever abandons it has disbelieved" (Ahmad)
Know, may Allah have mercy on you, that it is obligatory upon every Muslim to pray five times per day. These prayers must be prayed at their fixed times and they cannot be overlooked. My sons, a huge portion of those who call themselves Muslims do not pray five times a day. This is a calamity which has befallen the Muslims - we think we can simply declare our faith and then not perform the obligations placed upon us by Allah. The prayer is not optional, it is obligatory.
This is your time in conversation with your Lord. A time when you leave the world behind, when you leave your commitments to others and stand before Allah, the One who Created you from nothing. The One who Provides for you and the rest of His creation, the One who sees and Hears you and all that your heart desires. How merciful is our Lord that he has not obligated 50 prayers per day! May Allah guide you to goodness, there are 24 hours in a day and your Lord has only requested a tiny portion of these for His worship. Do not take the time to perform other 100 Page
This stern warning came from the Messenger of Allah (*) who did not speak of his own desire, rather it was revelation sent down to him. He warned us of abandoning the prayer and falling into disbelief. For indeed, the prayer is our barrier and defence from polytheism and disbelief as the Messenger said:
"Indeed, what stands between a man and disbelief and shirk is the prayer" (Muslim)
My sons! It is as if polytheism and disbelief are two beasts waiting to devour the faith of a person and his only protection from them is his prayer - so he turns to his Lord five times in a day and asks Him for safety and salvation. If he rips this barrier down and does not ask his Lord for safety, then what is stopping those beasts from devouring his faith?
