Description du livre

lace of Introduction
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, Most Merciful. All praise is due to Allah, the Eternal and Ever-living. We seek His help, forgiveness and guidance. No one can misguide the one whom Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'ala - Glorified and Exalted is He) leads to the straight path. Similarly, no one can guide the one whom He allows to go astray. I bear witness and testify that Muhammad (salla Allahu 'alayhi wa sallam - blessings and peace be upon him) is His final messenger, sent as a mercy and guide for humankind.
In Islam, there are two main sources of knowledge: the Qur'an and the sayings of the Prophet (), sometimes called the Hadith or Sunnah. These two sources are agreed upon and used by all the Muslims, both Sunnis and Shiites. The differences stem from their varying interpretation of these sources. However, they all unanimously accept their authority. What is peculiar to Hadith deniers is that they completely reject the second source of Islamic law.
After being involved with new Muslims for a couple of years, I quickly learned about certain groups who completely reject the
I have used the terms Hadith and Sunnah interchangeably; however, jurists sometimes use the word Sunnah to denote a praiseworthy act. My usage of the word 'Sunnah' refers to the corpus of Hadith or the Prophet's teachings in general.

The
Necessity
of the
Hadith
in Islam
There was a time when the notion of Hadith rejection was inconceivable. Sad to say, it is now becoming a widespread phenomenon in many countries. The educated and the ignorant, veteran Muslims and reverts, the middle class as well as the elite are falling prey to the misleading ideas projected by the Hadith rejecters through books and other forms of publication. The Internet has, unfortunately, given them a new and effective platform.
Emad Hamdeh has taken up the task of replying to these Hadith rejecters with sound and convincing arguments. The Necessity of the Hadith in Islam not only explains the need for the Hadith and the Sunnah at all times, but also presents and refutes the main arguments put forward by Hadith rejecters. Furthermore, Hamdeh has profiled the top few Hadith rejecters and summarised their ideas.
This is a well-researched, well-referenced and comprehensive work, which provides useful information to those seeking more knowledge on the subject. It will also sufficiently answer many different questions which come to mind after reading some of the arguments of the Hadith rejecters. Muslims today need to read works such as these to ensure that they are not misled, especially through the Internet.
About the author
Emad Hamdeh did his B.A. in World History from William Paterson University. He has also achieved an M.A. in Islamic Studies and a graduate certificate in Islamic Chaplaincy from the Hartford Seminary in the US. Hamdeh is currently a PhD candidate at Hartford Seminary.
