CHAPTER 1:
Muhammad () before the Message of Islam
This chapter sets the historical scene in which Muhammad () came into this world. It also draws a personal profile of Prophet Muhammad A brief narration of some historical events will help understand the period in which he was born and lived. I will also mention some signs of his greatness as a human being and his readiness to become a Prophet. One may also notice that from the time of his birth to the time he first received the Message of Allah, Allah the Almighty had been taking care of him.
Historical background
The time was around 570 CE and the place was the Arabian Penin- sula (which now consists of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Yemen). The Arabs were living in the Arabian Peninsula in the form of tribes. The tribes near Heerah, now east of Iraq, were subjects of the kingdom of al-Manâdhirah in Heerah, and the tribes near the Syrian desert were subjects of the kingdom of the Ghassanids in Dumatul-Jandal, whereas the tribes in the southwest of Arabia and closer to Makkah were under the regime of the dominant Quraysh tribe in Makkah (whose society was based on polytheism). The other tribes, spread over the deserts of Najd, Hijaz (the Western region of the Arabian Peninsula, which includes Makkah and Madinah) and Tuhama, did not really follow
