Lumatul I’tiqaad: The Illuminating Creed is a classical work on Islamic creed written by the renowned scholar Ibn Qudamah al-Maqdisi. This edition includes a detailed commentary that helps readers understand complex theological concepts with clarity, supported by evidence from the Qur’an and authentic Hadith.

Widely studied by students of knowledge, this book serves as a foundational guide for anyone seeking to strengthen their understanding of Islamic belief and develop a sound Aqeedah rooted in authentic teachings.

From Author:

This is a commentary of the classic treatise Lumatul I’tiqaad (The Illuminating Creed) of the great Imam, Abu Muhammad Muwaffaq-ud-Deen Ibn Qudamah AI Maqdisi, may Allah have mercy on him.

In this book, Ibn Qudamah presents the Creed of the Salaf as is the custom of the scholars of Ahlus-Sunnah wal-Jamaa’ah in every century — to preserve the authentic Creed by way of writing it down in books and spreading it. So this Creed became well known amongst the scholars and studied in the gatherings of knowledge. In fact the treatise continues to be studied and reviewed by students of knowledge throughout the world.

The Statement of Umar ibn Abdul Aziza
Umar Ibn Abdul-Aziza said: "Stop where the people have stopped! For indeed, they stopped upon receiving knowledge. The clear evidence suffices them, and they were the strongest at manifesting it. If there were any addition [to Islam], they would be most likely to have done it first.
So, if you say it was introduced after them, then no one introduces into it except for he who opposes their guidance and desires something other than their example. They have described from it what was enough and they have spoken concerning it, which has sufficed. What is above them is excessive and what is below them is inadequate. Some people have fallen short of them, and so they have drawn away, and others have transgressed them, so they became extreme; but indeed, those between these two are upon straight guidance."
Commentary
This statement is from another scholar of the pious predecessors, Umar ibn Abdul Aziz ibn Marwan; he became the caliph (successor) after Sulaiman ibn Abdul Malik. He also made a similar statement to Abdullah ibn Masood as.

The Tenth Attribute: 'The Descent of Allah'
From the Sunnah is the statement of the Prophet: "Our Lord, may He be Blessed and Exalted, descends to the lowest heaven every night." (Bukhari and Muslim)
Commentary
From here onwards, the author is listing some of Allah's attributes that are mentioned in the authentic ahadith of the Prophet.
The Tenth Attribute: 'The Descent of Allah'.
The attribute of Allah 'Descending' is affirmed based on the Hadith and the consensus of the pious predecessors. The meaning of this attribute is that Allah descends to the lowest heavens in the last portion of the night in a manner that befits His majesty.
Hadith
The Prophet said:
يَنْزِلُ رَبُّنَا تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى كُلِّ لَيْلَةٍ إِلَى السَّمَاءِ الدُّنْيَا
Our Lord, may He be Blessed and Exalted, descends to the lowest
heaven every night. (Bukhari and Muslim)
