THE STORY OF the first soul is also the story of the first human.
Human life begins when our soul is breathed into our body. The human body is a
shell acting as a temporary home for the soul.
The first human to ever be created was the Prophet Adam() and he was made in Paradise. The story of how he was made has been described to us in the Qur'an Allah created Ādam (L) with the intention of mankind being put on Earth and informed the angels in Jannah of exactly what He intended to do:
"And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, 'Indeed, I will make upon the earth a successive authority...." (al-Baqarah 2:30)
Allah created Ādam () from earth (turab) that was made into clay (teen) - and this mixture passed through a few stages before the final, hollow form of Adam () was complete:
"He created man [Adam] from sounding clay like the clay of pottery." (al-Rahman 55:14)
This type of clay is called al-salsal in Arabic - and is a hot mud mixed with sand, so it starts to clank and clatter when it dries. It is not yet made into pottery, but ifitis baked in fire, it becomes earthenware pottery.1
The clay used to create Adam (L) was taken from different types of earth, as the
hadith informs us:
"Indeed, Allah created Adam from a handful which He took from the earth, so the children of Adam come in accordance with the earth. Some come with red skin, whit skin, or black skin, and whatever is in between: smooth and rough, bad and good"
11
This gives a clue to how and why human beings have different temperaments, as we are a reflection of the earth from which we w we notice that every skin colour humans have, from the darkes can be found in a shade of soil of the Earth. Once Adam () was merely an empty vessel until the life-giving energy of the soul wa
"When Allah fashioned Adam in Paradise, He left him (in the form for a certain period of time."3
After this, Allah tells us that He breathed the soul of Adam into commanded the angels to bow down to this new creation of hun
"And when I have proportioned him and breathed into him of M then fall down to him in prostration." (al-Hijr 15:29)
This is the moment that the first human soul ever entered the fir Notice that it was only after Adam () had his soul blown in ordered the angels to prostrate out of respect to him. This prost Adam () however, it was in recognition and awe of Allah's what He had fashioned. This shows us the high status of the hur which, humans are just hollow shells.
The next thing that happens tells us so much about ourselves as

The soul of Adam (L) was first breathed into him from the top passed into his nostrils, Adam () instinctively sneezed. At this "Alhamdulillah" (Praise is to Allah) and Allah responded "Yarhamu have mercy on you).

What is the soul?
To answer this important question, let us go right back to the life of our beloved
Prophet Muhammad() when he was asked this exact same question.
When the Prophet Muhammad () conveyed the message of One God to his people, not everybody was convinced. Within the tribe of Quraysh, there were some who
wanted to create a test to see if he really was a Prophet as he claimed to be.
The Quraysh told two of their men: "Go to Madinah and ask the Jewish rabbis what they think. They are people of the first book and have more knowledge of the Prophets than we do." So, two men set off to Madinah and asked the rabbis about the Prophet's claims saying, "You are the people of the Tawrät (Torah) and we have come to you so that you can tell us about this companion of ours."
The rabbis responded: "Ask him about three things which we will tell you to ask, and if he answers them then he is a Prophet who has been sent (by Allah); if he does not, then he is saying things that are not true, in which case how you will deal with him will be up to you."
One of the questions was:
"Ask him about the soul (ruh) - what is it?"
After some time, Allah sent revelation to answer this question saying:
"And they ask you, [O Muhammad], about the soul. Say, 'The soul is of the affair of my Lord. And mankind has only been given a little knowledge." (Bani Israil 17:85)
Thereupon the Jews said he had spoken the truth, as they had indeed only been given little knowledge of the soul.1
What does this tell us? Despite the pressure to come up with a convincing answer the Prophet () simply responded back with the straightforward answer that Allah had revealed to him: Humans only know a little bit about the soul, and this is
part of Allah's special and hidden knowledge.
Having said that, within the 'little' that Allah has told us, we can learn import things about the nature of the soul. In Arabic, the soul is referred to as the ' and this word appears in the Qur'an used in several different ways. It has b used to describe the Angel Gabriel, the Qur'an itself, Prophet Isa, the Hel Allah and the Soul".
When we look at all these different uses for the same word, what bonds t together? What we see is that the 'rüh' refers to an unseen force that is cre by Allah that He uses to bring life and His Help. It is an inner power that is be our perception and an energy that brings about action.
These are all examples of invisible, life-giving sources of power created b sent from Allah: and this is the essence of the soul (rüh).
Pg:05
Have you ever wondered who you really are? Are we just the flesh and bones that make up our bodies, or is there something more to being human?
Big questions like where you were before you were born, and what will happen after you die are some of the most important you could ever ask-to truly understand ourselves, we must understand the soul.
Allah has placed a soul in every human being. This soul is a wondrous, blessed creation that has existed before you entered the world, and will continue long after you leave it. Created with a magnificent purpose, your body carries your soul through this world. Did you know, however, that your soul has already stopped at pre-ordained points before you were born, and has other stages to pass through before entering into eternity?
Islam places our soul at the centre of our life's purpose and provides us with rich and compelling guidance to aid us through. While we travel along the journey, we learn what it really means to be human, how to nourish our soul and how best to prepare for the eternity that awaits us all.
