CHAPTER 2
Periods 101
Period Facts
✓ Period blood comes from the uterus.
✓ Period blood is not just red, but it can be other colors too.
✓ Periods usually occur
once a month, or sometimes twice.
✓ Periods typically last around 5 to 7 days.
✓ A purity span with no colored discharge must occur between two periods.
✓ Periods are regulated by your body's hormones.
✓Clear and white vaginal discharge are not menstrual blood.
As your body develops, you may feel shy to ask questions about the changes that you are going through.
The female Companions also had embarrassing questions that they needed to ask the Prophet. Despite their feelings, they still asked him because they had to learn what Allah Most High wanted from them.
The Mother of the Believers Aisha said, "How excellent are the women of the Ansar! They did not allow shyness to prevent them from learning their religion." (Muslim, 332)
Follow in the footsteps of the female Companions. Don't be shy to ask your questions about your period and your body. Confide in someone who you can trust and who cares about you, like your mother, aunty, older sister, or Islamic schoolteacher. It is expected that you will be curious and inquisitive. The following are the top ten questions from girls like you.
What is a period?
A period is the time when a girl menstruates. Menstruation is the shedding of the lining from an organ called the uterus.
When pregnancy does not occur, the lining in the uterus sheds on a regular basis as a period, and it exits the body through an opening called the vagina. shedding of uterine lining

CHAPTER 1
Allah Made You Unique
Glossary
✓ Period (pee-ree-ud): another name
for menstruation
✓ Menstruation (men-stroo-ay-shyn): the monthly release of blood from the female body
✓ Puberty (pu-ber-tee): the biological process of developing into a young woman
Ruling (roo-ling): an action that scholars believe a Muslim must do based on what Allah and the Prophet Muhammad said
✓ Reward (ree-ward): what Allah gives you for doing something He loves
Have you ever noticed that there are different types of flowers in the world?
Some are bright colors of yellow and orange, while others are calmer hues of pink and red.
Some shyly bloom on bushes, while others excitingly burst through the earth's soil with long stems.
Some have petals with dotted spots, while others are very plain. Every flower is different in its shape, size, and beauty. And just the same, Allah has formed each creature to be unique in the way that they look and grow.
Allah Most High says: "Indeed, We created humans in the best form." (at-Tin, 95:4)
Allah fashioned humans in the best of ways because He is the all-Knowing, the Most Wise. SubhanAllah, He has made each person look differently, speak differently, and act differently. Through His infinite knowledge and power, Allah also designed girls to grow and develop differently from boys. One distinctive feature is that girls get periods and boys don't.
- GIRLS ONLY -
A period is the time that menstruation occurs. Menstruation is the monthly release of blood from the female body.
There are specific Islamic rulings related to menstruation. An important one is that your first menstruation marks the beginning of your womanhood.

CHAPTER 7
The Ghusl &
Good Hygiene
Allah loves
✓ Those who purify themselves
✓ Those who repent
✓ Those who are mindful of Him
✓ Those who rely on Him
✓ Those who are just
✓ Those who do good
✓ Those who are patient
✓ Those who follow the Prophet
The Prophet said, "Purity is half of faith." (Muslim, 223) Moreover, Allah Most High says in the Qur'an that He loves those who purify themselves. (al-Baqara, 2:222)
Therefore, it is important that Muslims stay clean and pure.
The ghusl is a purificatory shower that is taken after your period finishes. It removes the state of menstruation, which is a state of ritual impurity.
REQUIRED ACTS -
There are three main acts that must be done during the ghusl:
Rinse the inside of your nose with water.
Rinse the inside of your mouth with water.
(Qur'an 2:222, 3:76, 3:159, 49:9, 3:134, 3:146, 3:31)
Make sure water reaches the entire outer body, all your hair, and your private parts.
You do not need to shampoo your hair during the ghusl. You can wet all your hair with water and that is sufficient.
There are also Sunna actions for the ghusl. Doing the ghusl with the Sunna actions increases your reward with Allah Most High.
