Description du livre

A Treatise in Condemnation of the Hardness of the Heart by Imam Zayn al-Din Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (رحمه الله) is a timeless classical work that explores one of the greatest spiritual diseases—the hardening of the heart. Drawing upon the Qur'an, the authentic Sunnah, and the insights of the righteous predecessors, Imam Ibn Rajab explains the causes, signs, and harmful effects of a hardened heart while offering practical guidance for restoring sincerity, humility, and closeness to Allah.

The book encourages believers to increase remembrance of Allah (Dhikr), sincere repentance (Tawbah), reflection upon the Qur'an, and righteous deeds as means of softening the heart. It also warns against sins, heedlessness, excessive attachment to worldly life, and other factors that distance a person from Allah. Rich with authentic narrations and profound advice, this work serves as an invaluable resource for anyone seeking spiritual purification and stronger faith.

A Treatise In Condemnation Of
THE HARDNESS
OF THE HEART
The importance of this topic is highlighted by the supplication of the Prophet (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) where he sought refuge with Allah frordness of the heart. He (sallallahu 'alayhi wa sallam) said:
"O Allah! I seek refuge with You from foolhardiness, laziness, niggardice, cowardice, worriety, hardness [of the heart], indebtedness and from being overpowered and prevarication. And I seek refuge with You from poverty, dark death, debts, harsh domineering oppression to the truth, hypocrisy, seeking fame and showing off. And I seek refuge with You from deafness, dumbness, insanity, leprosy, diseases, and all chronic diseases."
Al-'Allamah al-Shawkānī explained al-Qaswah here to mean hardness of the heart to the extent that it does not accept admonition, fear punishment or show mercy to those deserving of it. [Irshad al-fuhūlān (p. 338)]
Malik b. Dinar said:
"A slave has never been punished with anything more severe than hardness of the heart." In this treatise Al-Hafiz Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali (rahimahullah) discusses the dangers of the hardness of the heart, its causes and how it can be treated in light of the Qur'an and the Sunnah.
