According to Imam ibn al-Jawzi , he was moved by the impactful book 'Al-Hilyat al-Awliya' by Al- Asbahani and decided to summarize and improve it by eliminating unnecessary information. This included removing chains of transmission to reduce the length of narrations and reports that were considered unreliable. As a result, his acclaimed 'Sifat al-Safwah' was born. It is a compilation of the stories and accomplishments of some of the most significant figures in Islamic history. These individuals are categorized into five ranks, starting with the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as the greatest human being, beloved by Allah and revered in both the Heavens and on Earth. The first volume contains over one hundred and twenty remarkable men of Islam, renowned for their knowledge, piety, bravery, sacrifice, and immense scholarly contributions.
