Al-Baqarah 2:30-34 and Al-'Araf 7:12-25
This book begins, appropriately, with the story of the creation of the first person on earth, Adam. His story has been mentioned seven times in various places throughout the Qur'an. That is because it is a very interesting story and holds many lessons for us all if we read it carefully.
A long time ago Allah gathered all the angels together and told them, "I am going to create an assistant (Khalifah) and put him on the Earth."
The angels said, "Are you going to create someone who will be mischievous and spill blood. Are we not enough to praise and glorify (worship) you?"
Allah replied, "I know things that you do not know."
Once Allah had made Adam, He taught him the names of everything. Then Allah presented those same things to the angels and said, "Tell me the names of these things if you are right."
The angels could not do this and replied, "Glory be to You! We do not know anything, except what you have taught us. You are Most Aware, Most Wise."
