CHAPTER 13
Abhorrence of Arrogance
"Arrogant? Who, ME? Never! I am a Muslim."
In the previous chapter, I highlighted the tyranny and bigotry committed by one of the most arrogant rulers in the history of humankind: the Pharaoh. I also described how his arrogance led him to reject the message brought by Allah's prophet and to mistreat the latter in many wicked ways.
His arrogance caused him to commit many sins besides the rejection of truth, such as lying, slander and outright genocide. (He used to have the male babies of the children of Israel killed in order to maintain his and his tribe's absolute power over them.)
In numerous places, the Qur'an describes not only the abhorrent actions of the Pharaoh, but also the numerous punishments meted out by Allah to him as a result of his repeated transgressions.
We can imagine how arrogant he must have been simply by considering the shocking statements that he made in front of the people over whom he ruled as king.
And said: I am your most exalted lord.
(Qur'an 79: 24)
...O eminent ones, I have not known you to have a god other than
me...)

Prophet Moses and al-Khidr - The quest for divine knowledge
Lessons from taking the young boy's life
279
And as for the boy, his parents were believers, and we feared that he would overburden them by transgression and disbelief.) (Qur'an 18: 80)
So we intended that their Lord should substitute for them one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy. (Qur'an 18: 81)
Not every child is a blessing. A child can also be a means of distress, torment, and sorrow for the parent by being rebellious, disobedient, ungrateful and wicked towards them. This is especially true for the children that Allah gives to disbelievers.
So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart [at death] while they are disbelievers.>> (Qur'an 9:55)
By making a child die in his or her youth, it is highly probable that via this tragic demise, Allah is actually saving the parents of this child from an even bigger future torment, grief, or sorrow, especially if they are righteous.
By taking a child's life, Allah might intend to give the parents another child who is purer in character and more righteous: one better than him in purity and nearer to mercy), who
