Al-Jumuah A Day of Worship | Darussalam
Al-Jumuah: A Day of Worship is a concept explained by Darussalam that highlights the significance of Friday in Islam as a special day of worship, reflection, and community. Jumuah (Friday) is considered the most sacred day of the week for Muslims, marked by congregational prayers, spiritual renewal, and increased devotion.
Key Points of Al-Jumuah:
-
The Importance of Jumuah:
- Jumuah is mentioned in the Qur'an as a day for Muslims to come together for communal prayer and seek remembrance of Allah. It is a day of spiritual rejuvenation, emphasizing the need to prioritize worship and reflection on this blessed day.
-
The Congregational Prayer (Salat al-Jumuah):
- The highlight of Jumuah is the Jumuah prayer, a special congregational prayer that replaces the regular Dhuhr prayer on Fridays. This prayer is performed in congregation at the mosque and is preceded by a sermon (Khutbah) that provides guidance and reminds the community of their duties to Allah and society.
-
Spiritual Benefits:
- Jumuah offers Muslims an opportunity to strengthen their connection with Allah through collective worship and to engage in community-building. It is a day for Muslims to seek forgiveness, pray for blessings, and refresh their spiritual commitments.
-
A Day of Reflection and Gratitude:
- Beyond the prayer, Jumuah is a day for reflection on one’s actions, seeking forgiveness for past mistakes, and striving for personal growth. Muslims are encouraged to engage in acts of charity, seek knowledge, and offer prayers to Allah on this blessed day.
-
Preparation for Jumuah:
- Muslims are encouraged to prepare for Jumuah by taking a ritual bath (Ghusl), dressing in clean and presentable clothes, and arriving early for the prayer. The day is also an opportunity for Muslims to make du’a (supplication) and read the Qur'an, particularly Surah Al-Kahf, which is recommended to be recited on Fridays.

4. Complete bathing (Ghusl) on the day of Jumu'ah. This is due to the hadeeth of the Messenger of Allaah,

"When Jumu'ah comes upon one of you, let him bathe (i.e. make Ghusl)." (Al-Bukhaaree and Muslim)
The scholars have differed concerning the ruling of bathing on Jumu'ah day, as to whether it is obligatory or recommended. The majority say that it is recommended. Therefore, it is commendable to perform complete bathing (Ghusl) on this day in order to fulfill this meritorious act.
