SOUVENIR OF TAQWA
In the early nineteenth century, another Muslim trav elogue became popular: the book of the Egyptian cleric Rifa'a Rafi al-Tahtawi on his journey to Paris, where he recorded his impressions of French culture
There, Imam al-Tahtawi saw museums for the first time, describing them as storehouses that help scholars preserve their knowledge of history, natural sciences, botany and wildlife.
Muslim scholars and scientists continued to travel throughout the medieval Islamic period and enriched the literary world.19 New ideas and scientific advances in other fields of knowledge, such as minerals and rocks, also reached the Islamic world through travelling schol- ars. Muslim voyagers satiated their desire for learning through travel, thus becoming a powerful force in the creation of an interconnected Islamic civilization.20
Say, "Travel in the land and look how He has originated the creation. Then Allah will create the subsequent creation. Surely Allah is powerful to do everything." (Qur'an 29:19)

"Leave your country in search of loftiness and travel! For in travel there are five benefits: relief of adversity, earning of livelihood, knowledge, etiquette and noble companionship." (Imam Shafi'i)
Travel is Not a Waste of Time
"Say, O Prophet, "Travel throughout the land and see how He orig- inated the creation, then Allah will bring it into being one more time. Surely, Allah is Most Capable of everything." (Qur'an 29:20) For a Muslim, travelling is in three categories. The first is for religious purposes, which involves visiting Makkah, Madinah and Jerusalem (al-Aqsa Mosque).

Souvenir of Taqwa
Taqwa is the prime essence of our existence in this world; without it, one cannot truly connect with the Creator. Throughout the day, a believer with taqwa maintains a constant connection with Allah. However, when worldly attractions arise, such as during recreational travel, the focus on taqwa can sometimes wane. It is then, that we need to redirect the compass of our hearts towards Allah.
