A new form of soothsaying
Chapter One: Magic and Magicians
His Eminence Sheikh Ibrahim Nassar asserts... that reading palms, reading cards, hanging beads, holding Zar ceremonies, as well as omens or optimism regarding a specific color or name, are all forms of soothsaying that existed before the advent of Islam. Thus, will it transform once again into the soothsaying of the early Jahiliyyah (Age of Ignorance)? And is the work of the Jahiliyyah permissible if its form is changed? "Falsehood wears the cloak of truth by diversifying its manifestations."
Palmistry:
His Eminence Sheikh Hassan Muslim, member of the Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee, says regarding palmistry... that it is one of the ancient forms of soothsaying that existed among the Greeks, Indians, Chinese, and Arabs before Islam. It relies on the patterns of lines on the palm, how they intersect, and the quality of the skin and nails, through which they claim to know a person's "fortune." Anatomists have stated that these lines, called "flexure lines," result from the effect of bending and straightening the palm... and they have no relationship to a person’s health, mental state, or psychology, as the soothsayers claim... Furthermore, why do we not view these lines as signs of God's power in His creation?
Zar Ceremonies... A Psychological Process:
Zar ceremonies are a psychological process and another form of contemporary soothsaying, where women gather to sway and dance to the beat of drums. These beats increase in speed until they reach their peak, and it may end with the woman for whom the Zar is held collapsing to the ground. So how could this lead to healing a sick person? It is not among the legitimate causes ordained by God, nor is it among the decree-based causes established by God for healing, such as medicine. It is merely a psychological process; perhaps the woman feels relief after the ceremony because she has released the psychological suppression and anxiety she was suffering from. End quote.
The affliction of the Prophet (PBUH) regarding his wives:
Al-Bukhari stated in the "Book of Medicine" in his Sahih: Abdullah bin Muhammad narrated to us, saying: I heard Sufyan bin Uyaynah saying: The first to narrate this to us was Ibn Jurayj, who said: The family of Urwah narrated to me from Urwah... and I asked Hisham about it, and he narrated to us... from his father, from Aisha (may God be pleased with her), who said: The Messenger of God (PBUH) was bewitched until he imagined that he was having intercourse with his wives when he was not. Sufyan said: "This is the most severe form of magic."

Preface
God the Almighty said: "They followed what the devils recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic and that which was revealed to the two angels at Babylon, Harut and Marut. But the two angels do not teach anyone unless they say, 'We are a trial, so do not disbelieve.' And [yet] they learn from them that by which they cause separation between a man and his wife. And they do not harm anyone through it except by permission of Allah. And the people learn what harms them and does not benefit them. But the Children of Israel certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have any share in the Hereafter. And wretched is that for which they sold themselves, if they only knew. And if they had believed and feared Allah, then a reward from Allah would have been better, if they only knew." (Al-Baqarah: 102-103).
God the Almighty said: "And Moses said, 'O Pharaoh, I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds. I am obligated not to say about Allah except the truth. I have come to you with clear evidence from your Lord, so send with me the Children of Israel.' [Pharaoh] said, 'If you have come with a sign, then bring it, if you should be of the truthful.' So Moses threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest. And he drew out his hand; and suddenly it was white to the observers. Said the eminent among the people of Pharaoh, 'Indeed, this is a learned magician. He wants to expel you from your land, so what do you instruct?' They said, 'Postpone him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers who will bring you every learned magician.' And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, 'Is there for us a reward if we are the predominant?' He said, 'Yes, and indeed, you will be among those made near.' They said, 'O Moses, either you throw, or we will be the ones to throw.' He said, 'Throw,' and when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them, and they presented a great magic. And We inspired to Moses, 'Throw your staff,' and at once it devoured what they were fabricating. So the truth was established, and abolished was what they were doing. And they were overcome right there and became debased. And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah]. They said, 'We have believed in the Lord of the worlds, the Lord of Moses and Aaron.'" (Al-A'raf: 104-122).
God the Almighty said: "But when the truth came to them from Us, they said, 'Indeed, this is clear magic.' Moses said, 'Do you say to the truth when it has come to you, "Is this magic?" But magicians will not succeed.' They said, 'Have you come to us to turn us away from that upon which we found our fathers and so that you two may have grandeur in the land? And we are not believers in you.' And Pharaoh said, 'Bring me every learned magician.' So when the magicians came, Moses said to them, 'Throw what you will throw.' And when they had thrown, Moses said, 'What you have brought is magic; indeed, Allah will invalidate it. Indeed, Allah does not amend the work of the corrupters. And Allah will establish the truth by His words, even if the criminals dislike it.'" (Yunus: 76-82). And God the Almighty said: "And We had shown him Our signs, all of them, but he denied and refused. He said, 'Have you come to us to drive us out of our land with your magic, O Moses? Then we will surely bring you magic like it, so make between us and you an appointment, which we will not fail to keep...'"

This is God.
Through many verses in the Holy Quran, it becomes clear to us in a distinct and evident way that magic is a form of illusion, sleight of hand, and movement ("They bewitched the eyes of the people and struck terror into them"). The magician creates an illusion for the viewer of things that he sees and makes him believe they are real, while in reality, they are mere imagination. The magician sees things as they truly are, while he creates illusions for others, making them believe that the objects of their magic are moving. The proof of this is that when Pharaoh's magicians threw their ropes and staffs, Moses' (PBUH) staff devoured what they had crafted of magic. They immediately said, "We have believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses," because they are experts in magic. If what Moses had done were magic, they would have overcome him with their magic; instead, they recognized that this was the truth, so they believed in the Lord of Aaron and Moses.
The Truth
This book reveals the secrets of magic and magicians and exposes their imposture and falsehood in their claims.
The author has organized it into three chapters:
Chapter One: Covers magic and magicians, and the fact that magic is one of the seven destructive sins warned against by the Messenger of God (PBUH) in his saying: "Avoid the seven destructive sins..." They asked: "O Messenger of God, what are the destructive sins?" He said: "Shirk with God, magic, killing the soul that God has forbidden except by right, consuming usury, consuming the property of the orphan, fleeing on the day of battle, and slandering chaste, believing, innocent women."
Chapter Two: Covers the stance of Islam on legal and illegal Istikhara (seeking guidance), seeking help from coffee cup readers, palmists, shell readers, and geomancers, and uncovering their tricks, imposture, and lies.
Chapter Three: Covers supplications from the Quran and Sunnah. It truly contains irrefutable evidence and general information that we are all in dire need of. Read and contemplate, and to God belongs all praise and favor.

من هو Sheikh Ali Ahmed Abdul-Al al-tahtawi؟
In this book, Sheikh Ali Ahmed Abdul‑Al al‑Tahtawi presents an informative and well‑researched examination of sihr (magic) and witchcraft from an Islamic perspective. By exposing the false claims and deceptive practices of magicians and those who promote them, the author reinforces the Islamic position that such practices are invalid and warn believers against being misled. The work helps readers to distinguish between superstition and authentic Islamic guidance, empowering them to rely on true sources of Islam.
