Tawheed
Importance of Tawheed
Tawheed is the most important obligation upon mankind, because tawheed
is the purpose of our creation. Allah says:
وَمَا خَلَقْتُ الْجِنَّ وَالْإِنْسَ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُونِ
I have only created jinns and men, that they may serve Me.
(Quran 51:56)
The statement (g) 'to Worship Me' means (g) 'to single me out'.
Ibn Abbas
said:
كل عبادة جائت في القران فمرادها بالتوحيد
Every act of worship mentioned in the Quran refers to tawheed.
Tawheed is the first command for a person to enter the fold of Islam, and it is the last thing that one is required to say when leaving this world. Ibn Qayyim
said:
فالتوحيد أول ما يدخل به في الإسلام، وآخر ما يخرج به من الدنيا كما قال النبي صلي الله عليه وسلم من كان آخر كلامه لا إله إلا الله دخل الجنة ؛ فهو أول واجب وآخر واجب، فالتوحيد أول الأمر وآخره
Tawheed is the first thing that is required from one to enter into Islam, and it is the last thing required from a person when he leaves this world; as the Prophet said: "If anyone's last words are 'There is no god that deserves to be worshipped but Allah', he will enter Paradise." Therefore, it is the first obligation.
