How I Was Guided To Tawhid And The Straight Path
BIRTH AND UPBRINGING
was bom in the city of Aleppo in Syria in the year 1925 AD according to the passport which corresponds to 1344 Hijri and currently I am approximately 70 years old. When I was approximately 10 years old I entered into a private school where I learnt to read and write. After this I joined the school known as Dar al-Hafadh and I remained there for 5 years, where I memorised the Qur'an by heart with Tajwid.
Then I entered a school in Aleppo which was known as the Preliminary Faculty of Shari'ah which is now known as the Shari'ah Secondary School and is a subsidiary to the Ministry of Islamic Endowments. It is a school that teaches the sciences of the Shari'ah and modern subjects. So I learnt Tafsir, Hanafi Figh, Arabic Grammar, Morphology, History, the science of Hadith and other subjects of the Shari'ah. The modern subjects I learnt were Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, the French language and other subjects which the Muslims from the past excelled in like Algebra.
I remember when I learned the subject of Tambid from a book called the Humaydi Fortresses. It concentrated on Tawhid of the Rabb and proving that this Universe has a Creator and a Rabb. Only afterwards I realised that many of the Muslims, authors, universities and schools that teach the Shari'ab subjects fall into this mistake. This is because the polytheists that fought the Messenger of Allab ( used to acknowledge that Allah is their Creator.
Allah says,
"And if you asked them who created them, they would surely say 'Allah' so how are they deluded?"
(Surah Zukhruf Ayab no.87)
Regrettably the Gregorian calendar is widespread to the extent that it is also used in the Islamic countries except for Saudi Arabia. They rely upon the Hijri calendar and it is mandatory because it is an Islamic calendar. It indicates the Hijab in which Allah gave Islam reverence.

begin with every beautiful name that belongs to Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All complete praise is due to Allab alone the Rabb' of all that exists. May blessings and greetings of peace be upon the best of His creation Muhammad (), the last and final Messenger, and upon his family, companions and all those who follow him until the day of Judgement.
This is a comprehensive translation of the book Kayfa Ibtadaryti lä At-Tawhid Wa Sirat Al-Mustaqim, How I Was Guided To Tambid And The Straight Path, by the esteemed scholar Shaykh Muhammad b. Jamil Zeno.
This book is the autobiography of the famous Arab scholar Muhammad b. Jamil Zeno, who responded to a request from a Turkish student of knowledge that wanted to know more about the Shaykh's life.
It is a completely different and unique memoire compared to the common stories. Shaykh Muhammad b. Jamil Zeno has embellished his narrative with the beauty of strong and irrefutable arguments from the Qur'an and Sunnah so that every reader can be completely satisfied with his rationalisation.
The story of the Shaykh's life is written in such an interesting way that the reader gets lost in it to the extent that he feels as though he is traveling with the Shaykh himself to different places.
Some beneficial footnotes compiled by me are marked as translator's notes [IN] to further aid the readers in their pursuit of seeking the reality of this topic.
Although every effort has been made to ensure this modern translation is as accurate as possible, if there are any obvious errors in it, then I will be deeply grateful to its readers to provide feedback and guidance.
I hope that this book benefits others. If so, then it is only a blessing from Allah, and then the product of guidance from my teachers and encouragement of sincere friends. I also hope that with works like this, I can make a modest contribution to the right

كَيْفَ اهْتَدَيْتُ إِلَى التَّوْحِيدِ وَالصِّرَاطِ الْمُسْتَقِيمِ
Whomsoever Allah wants to bestow His grace and mercy, He fills his heart and mind with pearls of wisdom and guidance. Many stories of coming from darkness to light are scattered in the pages of Islamic history.
