Je are all aware of the five pillars of Islam. These are the
part of the basic teachings of Islam and one of the first things we learn from the moment we start our Islamic education.
Have a second look at those five pillars? Why did Allah (SWT) put them in such an order? Are they in order of priority or in order of importance? Do we need to abide by them in their respective orders? Can someone fast if he does not pray? Can someone pay Zakaat if he has not read the Shahaada? Why is Hajj the fifth pillar of Islam and not the third?
There is indeed a wisdom behind the way Allah (SWT) has classified the pillars of Islam. This is probably one of the reasons why Allah (SWT) sent Jibrail (AS) in the form of a man to his beloved Prophet (SAW) who was sitting among his companions

Hajj as the fifth Pillar of Islam is a distinguished type of worship in the sense that those who intend to undertake the Hajj journey should be able to demonstrate exceptional spiritual skills which they have acquired through the establishment of the other Pillars of Islam in their life. A proper analysis of Hajj shows that it is in fact a culmination of all the other Pillars of Islam.
Every act of worship, including Hajj, is made up of two aspects, namely, the correct method of its accomplishment and the purpose behind its accomplishment. Very often however, we tend to concentrate more on the method whilst ignoring the purpose. Unless we are aware of the ultimate purpose behind our act of worship, we cannot realistically reap the full benefit it confers. Hajj is no exception.
This book attempts to provide an insight into the purpose and objective of Hajj. It does not delve into the topic of how to perform Hajj nor does it talk about the virtues of Hajj since these two topics have been expounded upon by many writers and scholars. This book is more about why we perform Hajj.
This book also provides a reflection on the wisdom behind every ritual involved in Hajj starting from the moment you put on your Ihraam until you return to Makkah for the Tawaf-Al-Ifaada. It explains the effects that Hajj is meant to produce in your daily life and in your preparation for death and the Day of Judgment. A proper understanding of these wisdoms is a prerequisite to reaching the ultimate objectives of Hajj and to reap the reward of a Hajj Mabrur (righteous Hajj performed with piety).
By the grace of Allah (SWT), you will find in this book the food you need to build your mental and emotional stamina and produce the energy you need to overcome any difficulties and challenges you may face during your Hajj.
