Abdullah ibn Umar reported that when the Prophet
sighted the moon of Rajab
(two months before Ramadan) he used to pray to Allah in the following words:
اللهم بارك لنا في رجب وشعبان وبلغنا رمضان
Allahumma barik lana fi Rajab wa Sha'ban wa ballighna Ramadan
O Allah! Make the months of Rajab and Sha'ban blessed for us, and let us reach the month of Ramadan [i.e. prolong our life up to Ramadan, so that we may benefit from its merits and blessings] (Bukhari, At-Tabarani and Ahmad)
23rd Rajab - 5 weeks before the start of Ramadan
Monday - 'Heart Focus' Week - Masha'Allah!!! Sabeena's sister gave birth today to a baby girl. Khadeejah arrived at about 6pm! I'll have to pop down to the High Street tomorrow and pick up a nice little outfit or maybe I'll just get her some vouchers.
There are still 5 weeks to go before the start of Ramadan and it seems a bit strange getting into serious 'Ramadan mode'this early, but alhamdulillah it's a good thing and I also have the RPP to thank for that. I've been through it about ten times now and this week is 'Heart Focus' week! Thinking about it, it's exactly what I need as I've been a bit lazy Islamically over the last couple of weeks. I feel as though I'm not concentrating in salah and other things as I should. I spoke to Aisha about that and she said she felt the same. Well at least 'Heart Focus' week will be a good first step. As the sheikh made very clear, we must start with tawbah, a real repentance called tawbah nasooha, where we intend to stop doing any of the sins we do

16th Rajab - 6 weeks before the start of Ramadan
Monday - 6 weeks! 6 weeks to go until Ramadan! Are you kidding me? I couldn't believe it when Sabeena sent me an e-mail today about an event at the end of the week regarding the virtues of Ramadan - alhamdulillah for friends like her. I learnt so much last Ramadan but to say that I got the best out of it would be a massive exaggeration! In fact it would be a complete lie. When Ramadan was over last year, I made a promise to myself that the next Ramadan would be different, in a good way of course. So, this Friday, 7pm at the Town Hall: 'The virtues of Ramadan'- it's in the diary.
Wednesday - Has this week at work dragged on or what? Well at least tomorrow's Thursday, which isn't too bad. Must remember to call Aisha; we're supposed to meet up for coffee and a catch-up this weekend. We've been doing that every first weekend of the month since we graduated from uni! I wonder if she'll come to the event on Friday. I'll send her a text later.
I feel an urge to do so much this year in Ramadan - surely this is from Allah. I've been thinking about the event for the last couple of days now and I'm really taking it seriously. Earlier, I started writing down what I did last Ramadan so as to remind myself of the good things I did and the good things I said I was going to do and didn't. I've also written down a few questions to ask the sheikh - can't wait!
Sabeena's sister is about 8 days overdue. I've told her that if they have a baby girl they should definitely call her Ameena, but I think their hearts are set on Khadeejah. Well if they're not going to call her Ameena then I guess Khadeejah's ok.
Tip: write down all the positive things that you did
Last Ramadan as well as those areas that need
improvement with the aim of maximising the benefits of this Ramadan, insha Allah.
