Surah Baqrah
Part 1
Notes
a mountain full of gold as a ransom to save himself from Allah's punishment, it would not help him, ( á) nor shall intercession be of benefit to him because Allah is not pleased with such people, (a) nor will they be helped against Allah's punishment.
Next, Allah mentions the story of Ibrahim. The Jews were claiming to follow him, saying, He was a Jew, and we are his followers. Allah says, Ibrahim was an Imam (a leader) in Tawheed, and the Prophet is the last messenger to call people to Ibrahim's religion. So, if you are claiming to be
his followers, then you have to believe in the Prophet. Allah then mentions the Ka'bah and some of the blessings bestowed on the city of Makkah.
Ibrahimpasses his tests
.Remember when Ibrahim was tested by His Lord with certain commands
Ibrahim was tested in many ways. For example, when he broke his people's idols and the king ordered that he should be killed and thrown into a fire. Another test was when he was ordered to sacrifice his son, Ismaeel. (5) And he fulfilled them, meaning he passed all of his tests. Thus, (J) Allah said: I am going to make you an Imam (leader) for the people so that they follow you. You will be a role model for all people until the Day of Judgement. Allah fulfilled His promise and Ibrahim became an Imam. The followers of all the major world religions consider him to be their Imam, including the Christians, the Jews, the mushrikeen, and the Muslims.
Upon receiving this special status from Allah, (J) Ibrahim said, O Allah, you have made me an Imam, but one day I will leave this world. I request you that you continue to retain this leadership (
.among my progeny ذُرِّيَّتِي
Allah said, I have accepted your prayers and will continue to retain this leadership among your progeny. Thus, all prophets who come after you will be from your progeny, but this cannot always happen. There will be times in which your progeny will be transgressors, (J) and My promise does not extend to the transgressors, meaning religious leadership is not given to transgressors.
The building of the Ka'bah
Next, Allah mentions His house, i.e., the Ka'bah, which Ibrahim and Ismaeel built. He says: (313) Remember when We made the House (Ka'bah) a place of assembly for men, meaning a place to which people return to perform tawaf and other acts of worship. Another meaning of this verse is that this is a place of reward

Surah Tahreem
This surah is a Madani surah. The first few verses refer to an incident in which the Prophet prohibited himself from drinking honey to please his wives. Aisha and Hafsa were upset that the Prophet was spending more time with his wife Zainab due to a honey drink she would serve him, so they secretly agreed to pretend to be offended by the odour. The Prophet did not want to offend his wives, so he swore an oath never to drink it again. Allah then revealed verses telling the Prophet not to prohibit what is lawful.
Allah rebukes the Prophet in a gentle manner for prohibiting himself from doing what Allah has allowed him to do
Prophet, why do you forbid on yourself something that Allah has
made lawful for you (s) to please your wives? Consumption of honey was permissible for the Prophet, but he prohibited it for himself alone, meaning he never made it a ruling in the religion of Allah. So, Allah asks him, Have you prohibited yourself from consuming honey to please your wives? O Prophet, We have forgiven you (aug) and Allah is Most-Forgiving, Most-Merciful.
Allah has prescribed for you a way of releasing yourselves from
your oaths. Instead of forbidding yourselves from doing something Allah has made lawful for you, expiate the oath and return to doing the lawful thing.
The expiation procedure for breaking oaths is mentioned in Surah Maidah: either feed or clothe ten poor people or free a believing slave. If one is unable to do either of these things, then fast for three
and He is وَهُوَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ) And Allah is your protector (والله مولاكم) (days (consecutive or separated
the All-Knowing, the All-Wise.
The next verse refers to when the Prophet told Hafsah something in confidence. He told her not to disclose the information to anyone, but she disclosed it to Aishah and, in turn, told her not to mention it to anyone else. Allah say

Surah Baqrah
This surah is a Madani surah. It is the longest in the Quran and contains over a thousand commands and prohibitions. Ibn Umar as studied this surah for eight years, while Umar as studied it for twelve years.
(J) Alif Lam Mim. Allah knows best the meaning of these letters. The mufassereen have given various interpretations of these letters, which are known as 'Huroofe Muqatta'at', but most believe they are a challenge to the disbelievers. In other words, Allah is saying, O disbelievers, these are the letters of your alphabet, so with these, try to bring forth a Quran like this one.
contains no doubt because it is a This Book that Muhammed recites to you (ذَلِكَ الْكِتَابُ)
revelation from Allah.
(s) In this Quran, there is guidance for the believers and disbelievers. This guidance comes in two types: (1) guidance showing everyone (including both believers and disbelievers) the way to the straight path (the Prophet showed the path of guidance to everyone); and (2) guidance on accepting the straight path, which is only (á) for those who are conscious of Allah.
The righteous qualities of the sincere believers
And those who are conscious of Allah are those (who believe in the Unseen, meaning they believe in everything Allah has told them about the past, the future, the Hereafter, and His attributes rather than believing only in things that can be seen. This is the difference between the believers and the disbelievers - the disbelievers only believe in what they can physically see.
Among the traits of those who are conscious of Allah is that they (all) establish salah. This means praying on time with sincerity and khushoo, praying in the manner of the Prophet, and doing so in the masjid (for men). Some may argue that establishing salah takes too long and could affect their jobs or businesses, so Allah says: () We ask no provision from you, (ƒ) We give provision to you.
