A Warning Against Extremism – Islamic Book on Moderation, Deviation & Protection
A Warning Against Extremism is an Islamic publication from Darussalam that emphasizes the importance of moderation (wasatiyyah) in Islam and warns against falling into extremist ideologies. The book highlights the balanced teachings of Islam as established by the Qur’an and Sunnah, showing how deviation from authentic understanding can lead to misunderstanding, division, and harm within the Muslim community. It explains that Islam is a religion of ease, mercy, and justice, and strongly discourages harshness or exaggeration in religious practice. Through clear guidance and references to prophetic teachings, the book encourages Muslims to follow the middle path and avoid both negligence and extremism. It is suitable for students, readers of Islamic studies, and anyone seeking to understand the correct balanced approach to faith according to orthodox Islamic teachings.
From Author:
Description from the publisher: This religion is built upon ease as is verified in the saheed that the Prophet صلی الله علیه وآلهِ وسلم said “Indeed this religion is easy and no one is harsh upon himself in the religion except that it overcomes him.” This means that the religion which Allah sent down and is pleased for His servants, and which al-Mustafa established and manifested the sunnah and was upon – is one of ease, happiness, relaxation, tranquility, and no one becomes harsh in the religion except that the harshness overcomes himself. This is from the good news and leads non-Muslims to accept the religion, because the previous religions were based upon many responsibilities and duties. The religion of Islam however, and all praise, virtue and mercy is due to ALLAH, came easily and to make things easy.
Content:
Islam Is a Religion of Ease
The author explains that Allah revealed Islam as a religion characterized by ease and mercy. He cites the statement of the Prophet ﷺ:
“Indeed, this religion is easy, and no one makes the religion difficult upon himself except that it overcomes him.”
The book emphasizes that Islamic teachings are designed to bring tranquility, happiness, and spiritual well-being rather than unnecessary hardship.
The Qur’an Calls to Moderation
Through Qur’anic verses and scholarly explanations, the author shows that Allah did not reveal the Qur’an to burden people but to guide them toward success and ease. The work highlights how the Qur’an consistently encourages balanced worship and practical obedience.
The Danger of Religious Extremism
A central focus of the book is warning against exaggeration and extremism in religious matters. The author explains that excessive strictness often leads to:
Hardship and burnout
Neglect of authentic Prophetic guidance
Division among Muslims
Misrepresentation of Islam to others
Following the Sunnah
The book stresses that the safest path is adherence to the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. True devotion is achieved through following the Prophet's example rather than introducing excessive practices or burdens that Allah did not legislate.

The commentators of the Qur'an say that His saying "We have not sent down to you the Qur'an that you may be distressed" means: the sending down of the Qur'an was not to cause any distress to you rather to bring happiness to you as it is easy. Therefore, the Qur'an calls for ease, as Allah says in another verse,
* وَنُيَسِّرُكَ الْيُسْرَى ؟ ويسرا
"And We will ease you toward ease"
{al-A'la (87): 8}
The commentators also said that this means: "We will ease you to the path of the Sunnah which is easier and more beloved and further way from responsibility," responsibility in that which He is not obeyed. For this reason Allah says towards the end of Suratul-Baqarah,
رَبَّنَا وَلَا تُحَمِّلْنَا مَا لَا طَاقَةَ لَنَا بِهِ
"Our Lord, and burden us not with that which we have no ability to bear"
{Baqarah (2): 286}
When the believers made this supplication to Allah, Allāh responded "I already have done so," as is narrated by Muslim in the Sabeeh
