اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ العُجْرِ، وَالكَسَنِ، واجبُني ، والمُخْلِ، والهَيَز ، والفُسَمِرُ ، والمُخْلِ، وَالْعُودِ، وَاهَنَّنَ، وَالمُسْخَلِ، وأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ غَدَل، والكفّ، والخُرَاةَ والفُسُبِال، والحُمَالِ، والنقل، والنِّعْمَةٍ، وَقَاهِ، وَأَعُوذُ بَتْ مِنْ الصَّسَرِ، وانكي، وابخُولِ، واتَخْبَاةِ، وَالْقِسِ، وَمَصُّوءِ النُّخْلَفَهِ
"O Allah! I seek refuge with You from foolhardiness, laziness, niggardice, cowardice, worriety, hardness [of the heart], indebtedness and from being overpowered and prevarication. And I seek refuge with You from poverty, dark death, debts, harsh domineering oppression to the truth, hypocrisy, seeking fame and showing off. And I seek refuge with You from deafness, dumbness, insanity, leprosy, diseases, and all chronic diseases."
Al-'Allamah al-Shawkānī explained al-Qaswah here to mean hardness of the heart to the extent that it does not accept admonition, fear punishment or show mercy to those deserving of it. [Irshad al-fuhūlān (p. 338)]
Malik b. Dinar said:
