Syed Abul A'la Maududi

Syed Abul A'la Maududi (1903–1979) was a prominent Islamic scholar, thinker, writer, and revivalist from the Indian subcontinent. He devoted his life to explaining Islamic teachings in relation to the intellectual, social, political, and economic challenges of the modern world. He founded Jamaat-e-Islami in 1941 and produced a large body of Islamic literature in Urdu.

His most renowned work is Tafhim-ul-Qur'an, a comprehensive Urdu translation and commentary of the Qur'an that presents Qur'anic guidance in accessible language and relates its teachings to contemporary individual and social life. His other writings cover Islamic thought, Islamic law, education, economics, politics, history, Seerah, and the revival of Islamic values.
