Muhammad ibn 'Ali al-Shawkani
Muhammad ibn Ali al-Shawkani (1173–1250 AH / 1759–1834 CE) was a leading Yemeni scholar, jurist, and hadith expert. He was known for his independent approach (ijtihad) and strong emphasis on returning directly to the Qur’an and Sunnah.
He mastered multiple Islamic sciences including Fiqh, Hadith, and Tafsir, and authored major works such as Nayl al-Awtar. Scholars praised him for his deep analytical skills, precision in research, and commitment to truth, making him one of the most influential scholars in later Islamic history.
