Al-Hafiz Ibn Abd al-Barr

Al-Hafiz Abu ‘Umar Yusuf b. ‘Abd al-Barr (978 CE–1070 CE) was a pre-eminent Muslim scholar from Córdoba, Al-Andalus, noted for his mastery of hadith, jurisprudence, history, and biography. He was praised by later scholars such as al-Dhahabi, who called him the “Hafiz of the West”, and was renowned for synthesizing fiqh and hadith scholarship in his era. His work spans multiple disciplines, making him a trusted authority in Seerah, hadith interpretation, and legal reasoning.
