His companionship was tire- less and his support unconditional. So blessed is this individual that Allah, the Most Just, allowed him to accompany the Messenger beneath the Earth just as he accompanied him above it. Even today, mere inches separate the graves of the Messenger and Abu Bakr
Though famously known as Abu Bakr, his real name was 'Abd Allah ibn 'Uthman. He was referred to as al-Siddiq (the truthful one), a title which 'Ali ibn Abi Talib swore had descended from the Heav ens. The iman (faith) of Abu Bakr weighed more than the iman of the entire ummah combined!? This is not a claim made lightly, for there were many great men and women who were alive during the time of Abu Bakr. However, in an expression of utmost awe, 'Umar ibn al-Khattab once said:
لو وزن إيمان أبي بكر مع إيمان الناس لرجح إيمان أبي بكر
"If the Iman of Abu Bakr was weighed with the Iman of the entire ummah, his side of the scale would be heavier."s
Subhan Allah! What spectacular heights must Abu Bakr have reached
during his lifetime to be praised like this by 'Umar? Abu Bakr was no ordinary individual, but a true wonder of Allah's creation.
THE DEAREST OF THEM ALL
Abu Bakr was - and if this had been his only virtue it would have sufficed - the most beloved of men to the Prophet. Whilst we can all claim to love the Messenger, how many of us are sure that we are loved in return? As for you and I, we will never have such a guar- antee today. But for Abu Bakr the matter was completely different. The Messenger was once asked:
"Who is the most beloved person to you?" To which he responded, "Aishah."
Following this initial response, the questioner remarked, "I meant from the men." The Prophet responded, "Her father (i.e. Abū Bakr)." The questioner continued asking who was next and the Prophet continued naming individuals until the questioner stopped asking for fear of being named last."
Not only was Abu Bakr so loved by the Prophet, there was also a unanimous agreement among the companions that the greatest of this ummah - after its Prophet - was Abu Bakr.
'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar would say:
كُنَّا تُخَيرُ بَيْنَ النَّاسِ فِي زَمَنِ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَنُخَيْرُ أَبَا بَكْرٍ ثُمَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الخطاب ثُمَّ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ عَفَّانَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمْ
"We used to compare the people as to who was better at the
Ibn Hajar, Fath al-Bert, as narrated by al-Tabarani with a trustworthy chain of narrators Ahmad, Musnad
Muslim, on the authority of Abu 'Uthman
Page:03
BE LIKE ABU UBAYDAH
Be trustworthy and discharge your trusts with propriety: Abu Ubaydah was declared by the Prophetas being the amin of this ummah, the very same name and quality for which the Proph- et himself, was famous - even among the pagans - before his prophethood. Trusts have been assigned to you by Allah and you will be asked about each one before Him. Treat them in the same way you would wish to be treated and better.
Have consciousness of Allah and He will make a way out: Abu 'Ubaydah and the companions were starving when they un- expectedly came upon the whale carcass. It did not merely satiate their immediate hunger, but it fed them for a whole month. When we discharge our religious obligations with sincerity and roam the Earth with recognition of Allah's supremacy, He provides for us from where we could never expect or imagine. Show gratitude to Allah for His blessings and be aware of His favours.
Make a stand for what is right:
The companions had unwaveringly bought into the Message of the Prophet. Physical sacrifice was an easy price in exchange for eter- nity. When Abu 'Ubaydah broke his teeth aiding the Prophet, it was, of course, a sacrifice, but it was a small one in the grand scheme of things when you consider the reward that will accompany it. Be unwavering in maintaining your adherence to the truth. Be conscious of Allah and He will make a way out.
Page:04
ABU UBAYDAH AT A GIANCE
Abū 'Ubaydah was named the 'trustee' of this ummah by the Prophet and declared by him to be a trustworthy man whom he sent on official visits to other polities
Before 'Umar died, he said that if Aba Ubaydah was still alive, he would have appointed him as the Caliph
When asked about whom the Prophet loved most out of his companions, 'A'ishah named Abu Ubaydah as the person he loved the most after Abu Bakr and 'Umar
Aba 'Ubaydah's qualities of leadership and knowledge meant the Prophet regularly appointed him to lead the Muslims in campaigns
On one campaign, Abu 'Ubaydah demonstrated wisdom in commanding the starved Muslims to eat from a whale carcass, which in ordinary circumstances would have been unlawful - the Prophet approved Abū 'Ubaydah's decision
He demonstrated a feat of unmatched devotion to the cause of Allah in the Battle of Badr when he was hunted by his father, reluctantly killing him and earning the praise and recognition of Allah in the Qur'an for the firmness of his belief in testing circumstances
In Uhud, he displayed another act of selfless love for the Proph- et and the path of Allah by breaking his teeth in removing metal links from the wounded face of the beloved Prophet
Before Abu Bakr was chosen as the leader of the Muslims, he initially nominated Abu 'Ubaydah, giving him his approval to lead the Muslims
He exhibited no remonstrance or animosity when replaced as leader of the Muslim army by Khalid ibn al-Walid leadership of Abu Bakr

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0716/0843/4926/files/Promised_Paradise_Stories_of_the_Ten_Companions_Promised_Jannah_by_Ali_Hammuda_01.jpg?v=1774889846
https://islamicbrands.org/products/promised-paradise-stories-of-the-ten-companions-promised-jannah-by-ali-hammuda
